In total 91.4 million visits were made to search services provided through Finna in 2024. The use grew up as much as 54 % compared to 2023. A particularly large proportion of new visitors were from online libraries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At the end of 2024, Finna\u2019s services included a total of 131 search services. The most extensive of the services is Finna.fi, which simultaneously provides the material of all 461\u00a0organisations associated with Finna at once. The other search services focus on the material of individual libraries, museums and archives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finna is part of the everyday life of many Finns, with its search services attracting a total of 1.4\u00a0million logged-in users.<\/span><\/p>\n

Online libraries bring new users to Finna<\/span><\/h3>\n

The year 2024 brought to Finna a significant amount of new users from the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, as the Helmet libraries opened an online library based on Finna in April.<\/span><\/p>\n

In particular, the use of a handful of online libraries grew considerably when public libraries abandoned their independent mobile library applications in 2024. For example, the online library of the PIKI libraries in the Tampere region increased significantly in popularity.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of 2024, 84% of Finnish municipal libraries used Finna as their online library.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finna.fi search used 5.7 million times<\/span><\/h3>\n

The nationwide Finna.fi service is continually increasing in popularity, seeing a 17% rise in use from the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The service offered a total of 18.6 million resources, of which 3.4 million were directly available online. As in previous years, the most popular resources were books and images.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among other things, the material was supplemented by new collections from eight museums, with new local historical material and collections associated with historical figures becoming available.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scholarly knowledge and learning material available to more and more people<\/span><\/h3>\n

Finna\u2019s success in 2024 can also be explored in terms of sharing information. The material in the service entity can be imported into organisation-specific search services, making the data available to an increasing number of information seekers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finnish scholarly journals presented by the journal.fi platform constitute the most popular content selected by customer organisations for their Finna search services, and are currently available through 33 such services. At the moment, open learning materials are offered in a total of 19 search services. Publication archives are also popular; for example, the resources in Valto, the Institutional Repository for the Government, are available through 13 search services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adding material to various Finna services makes Finnish datasets, and reliable information, increasingly available to people and society.<\/span><\/p>\n
