SUMMARY:Solving the IIIF-puzzle - Images in Dialogue Helsinki Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Registration to the Solving the IIIF-puzzle – Images in Dialogue Helsinki Showcase is now open. \nJoin us to hear about the experiences of the Finnish International Image Interoperability Frameworkin (IIIF) implementation project Images in Dialogue\, and learn how to get started with IIIF yourself. \nAt the event\, you will hear how cultural heritage collections can be reused in new ways for example in research and teaching\, with the help of IIIF\, and what the National Library of Finland (NLF) has learned from the implementation of the IIIF standard and tools. You will also get to know the National Library collections that serve as pilot materials for the project: the Ptolemaic Atlases from the 15th to 18th centuries\, the banned clandestine manuscripts from the 17th to 18th centuries\, and the medieval Fragmenta Membranea manuscript fragments. \nIn addition to the presentations\, the program includes two practical workshops. Users of cultural heritage collections will learn how to use IIIF materials with IIIF complying tools\, and for those working with information systems in museums\, libraries\, and archives\, we offer a more technical workshop on the implementation of the basic IIIF APIs. \nAll presentations and workshops are in English. The morning session will be streamed online. \nSee the programme. \nRegister here \nThe International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) enables easy sharing and versatile use of digital collections of cultural heritage organizations\, for example in research and education. In the Images in Dialogue project the National Library of Finland has implemented IIIF APIs in the digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi service and added support for finding and viewing IIIF materials in the Finna.fi search service to improve the interoperability and usability of its collections internationally for different audiences. As a national provider of digital services\, the National Library also shares lessons learned with its networks. \nThe Images in Dialogue project and this seminar are funded by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. \n
