SUMMARY:5th ACCC Impact Week 2026: The Global Challenges of Climate Change for Science and Society
DESCRIPTION:The Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center (ACCC) is a research and innovation ecosystem. We organize our 2026\nImpact Week on 14–17 April at the Sofia Cultural Centre in Vuosaari\, Helsinki. \nWe invite researchers\, companies\, non-governmental organizations\, decision-makers\, education professionals\, experts in research infrastructures\, as well as ACCC members to join discussions on pathways to climate neutrality. This year’s theme focuses on the challenges of climate change from the perspectives of civil society\, decision-makers\, and the necessary funding. \nThe aim of the event is to further develop existing and new forms of collaboration with ACCC’s key stakeholders. We will work together to develop practical solutions and reliable roadmaps toward carbon neutrality\, a safe climate\, and clean air. \n\nWe will present ACCC’s latest research results related to interactions between the biosphere and the atmosphere\, with a particular focus on carbon sinks and carbon stocks in forests\, peatlands\, agricultural lands\, and urban environments\, as well as urban air quality.\nWe will discuss carbon sink monitoring systems and sustainable land use and hear from leading experts in the field.\nWe will discuss climate expertise\, societal impact\, and policy measures to combat climate change.\nThis year\, we are honored to welcome the Climate Theatre to perform for us on Tuesday and Wednesday! The program includes a unique and thought-provoking performance\, with dinner served during the intermission. In the second half\, well-known panelists such as Mari Pantsar\, Saara Kankaanrinta\, Risto Isomäki and Tuuli Kaskinen will also join the discussion. (Note: different panelists each night)\n\nProgramme. Please see more detailed session descriptions from the Impact Week 2026 flyer.\nSessions are held in the same language as their titles\, some in Finnish\, some in English. We will arrange bus transportation after the theater on Tuesday and Wednesday to Rastila metro station and Helsinki Central Railway Station. If you wish\, you may also stay overnight at Sofia at your own expense. Please sign up latest on 7.4.2026\n \nPractical information\nTo Sofia by car: there are free parking spaces. \nBy public transport: Kulttuurikeskus Sofia is easily accessible by metro to either Rastila or Vuosaari. From both Rastila and Vuosaari\, it is approximately a 2 km walk to Sofia. Bus 560 also operates between the Rastila and Vuosaari stations; you can take it to the Kallvikinniemi stop and then walk about 1.2 km to Sofia. On weekdays\, bus 816 runs from Vuosaari directly to Sofia’s main entrance.
